Is Potato Milk the New Oat Milk?

0

I’ll speak for myself, but oat milk is (by far) the superior milk alternative. However, its place on the milk-substitute pyramid may not be guaranteed for much longer, as newcomer potato milk is making its way into the playing field.

According to The Cut, this root vegetable-derived liquid is said to be the next drink in line to replace our nut-based dairy alternatives, and it will soon be sold in supermarkets everywhere. Made the same way as the others, the potato gets strained and combined with water and a few other ingredients for a liquified, creamy consistency. But there’s one unique aspect about potato milk that may make it a bit more appealing than the others.

The Cut reports that potato milk is the most eco-conscious of all the plant-based milks, as growing potatoes take up about half as much land as growing oats does. Plus, farming potatoes requires one-56th as much water as almond farming.

Interested in tasting the new milk for yourself? Currently, it is only sold in Europe, but it’s expected to make its way over to the States soon. In terms of manufacturers, Dug is the only company currently selling it, and they make the potato milk in an original, unsweetened and “barista” version. Watch out, oat milk!
