I Can’t Walk Around Naked All Summer—So Thank Goodness This Jumpsuit Exists

Hot take: Summer is my least favorite season. I’d gladly give up longer days and a tan if it meant keeping the temperature at a sensible 65 degrees all year long. Instead, from June to October, I’m a cranky, sweaty mess, carrying a portable fan around and silently begging Mother Nature to go back to normal, please.

As the UV index and humidity climb even higher, I find myself missing my leggings and sweaters. Cozy season feels too far away—and my lone pair of sweatshorts can only go so long between washes. Every summer, I wonder what exactly I’m supposed to wear when just stepping outside creates a tidal wave of sweat.

This year, I’ve found the perfect solution, and it’s not biker shorts or even a cute matching set. When I’m staring down my closet on 100-degree days, the only thing I can fathom putting on my body is Aritzia’s Butter Breakaway Jumpsuit ($128, aritzia.com)—here’s why.

The design

When it’s ridiculously hot out, I gravitate towards things I can throw on quickly without having to think too hard about what my outfit looks like. This jumpsuit from Aritzia’s Golden activewear line is the epitome of cool and casual, with a slouchy, baggy shape and a slightly barrel-leg silhouette that doesn’t stick to my sweaty skin.

The thin shoulder straps meet in a racerback and have small metal buckles for easy adjusting. The fit leaves plenty of room for walking, lounging, or yoga-flowing, plus there’s a reflective logo on the back. But my personal favorite feature? Two side pockets that are more than deep enough to fit an iPhone, TV remote, pair of sunglasses, or snack (or all of the above).

One thing to note: I highly recommend pairing this jumpsuit with a base layer. The neckline is super scooped, and even if you tighten the straps all the way, there’s a significant amount of sideboob, especially if you have a larger chest (thanks to the low-cut sides). This design is part of the one-piece’s breezy feel—just make sure you have a bandeau, longline sports bra, or tank top ready to wear underneath it.

The fabric

According to Aritzia, the Butter Breakaway Jumpsuit is made from a sweat-wicking blend of nylon and elastane. The former should be durable, while the latter is there to help the fabric stretch and return to its original shape. In my experience, both materials seem to be doing their job—this one-piece doesn’t cling to my body, even if I’m working up a sweat; moves with me; and hasn’t pilled or faded in the six months I’ve had it.
