[unpaid/affiliate] I am not a fan of the cardigan in general – there are some really droopy things out there that for my 5ft 3in stature make me look like I’ve been covered up like an un-used piano. Others – more chunky things – give me Mrs Doubtfire vibes so I’ve always kept a weather eye out for cardi alternatives. Items that do the covering up and extra layer but just have a little bit more edge to them.
I literally discovered this metallic bomber at M&S yesterday, and it’s exactly the kind of cover up I’m talking about. I like open-work material and I like metallics so we are spoilt for choice with both silver and gold.
Although M&S have styled this gold option with jeans, I think – for a change – that’s the one thing I wouldn’t wear this jacket with. Linen trousers, shorts, maxi dresses, t-shirts, linen shirts, long skirts – more or less anything but jeans. It’s personal choice of course – if this is going look perfect with your flare or wide-legs, go for it. I like this jacket for having all the floppiness and comfort of a cardi but just taking the style stakes up a notch or two. If you ever wonder what to wear on a plane this says holiday all the way and it’s going to be the perfect thing for covering up in the evenings if you need to.
