Dua Lipa Looks Like a Modern-Day Britney Spears in a Denim Gown & Butt-Grazing Waves

Is that you, Dua Lipa, or is that 2001-era Britney Spears? Lipa is totally channeling the Princess of Pop in her latest look, complete with a full-length denim gown a la the defining denim dress Brit wore to the 2001 American Music Awards.

Lipa, who is currently touring the globe on her Future Nostalgia tour, snapped a few pics to celebrate her 93rd show and gave us straight-up Spears vibes. Lipa was wearing a light wash corset gown from Blumarine with a matching belt emblazoned with a “B.” (The “B” is definitely for Blumarine, but we’re pretending it’s for Britney, OK?) Instead of throwing it fully back to 2001 with a pin-straight flat-ironed style, Lipa and her hairstylist Jake Gallagher updated the look for 2022 with butt-grazing waves worn parted in the middle; the waves are soft, fluffy, and perfectly imperfect.

The pop superstar did sprinkle a few Y2K elements into her beauty look with glittery upper and lower lids and a glossy lip, but updated the sparkle with full, brushed-up brows and winged liner. Makeup artist Shelby Smith, who has been touring alongside Lipa, is no stranger to glitter — she and Lipa love a pop of sparkle, and a quick scroll through her Instagram is proof that it’s a go-to look for Lipa onstage and off.

Throwback elements are a key centerpiece of Lipa’s personal style. The musician is all about referencing the past in her stage costumes and red carpet outfits. For the 2022 Grammy Awards, she wore a ’90s-esque black and gold Versace look with white-hot platinum blonde hair. And we can’t forget to mention all those performance catsuits, a Spears-approved style if ever we’ve seen one. Lipa definitely has the balance of modern trendsetting and throwback fun down in her glam routine and her music.
