BlendJet Review: This Pint-Sized Instagram Blender Is Perfect for Small Spaces

If you regularly scroll through Instagram, you’ve probably contemplated buying something random. If you spotted a colorful portable blender and thought, “OMG, I need it,” this BlendJet review is for you (you’re welcome).

If you haven’t seen BlendJet 2 (Bed Bath and Beyond, $50) Instagram ads, allow me to paint a picture. The ads range from straightforward testimonials from star athletes who extol the virtues of blending on the go to soothing (but admittedly bizarre) ASMR videos where viewers can listen to someone whispering about blending celery and other veggies.

The Insta-branding might make you think this is a magical tube of smoothie-making delight, but ultimately, the BlendJet 2 is a 16-ounce cordless blender that you can charge and take, well, anywhere. You simply replenish the battery using a USB-C cord, and then you’re good to go for about 16 blends, according to BlendJet. The unit has two standard settings—blend and pulse—but once you’ve turned your fruit and veggies into a smoothie, juice, or cocktail, you don’t have to bother pouring your concoction into a separate cup.

Though I’m not “on the go” much these days, I got swept up in the fantasy that I might take my smoothie anywhere. For those of you who are a bit more mobile, this could be perfect for blending on your way to work or an outdoor workout. In fact, the BlendJet 2 has an adjustable strap that allows you to carry your blender like a wristlet handbag.

All of these things—and the wide range of colorful options—make it prime for Instagram lust. But does it work? The short answer is yes. I used the BlendJet 2 to make a range of smoothies with ice and frozen fruit over the course of two weeks. Admittedly, getting the BlendJet to work requires a bit of a learning curve (the BlendJet cup must be screwed to the base at a precise angle to function). Still, there is something really satisfying about hitting a button, making a smoothie, and carrying this little blender over to my desk. I imagine that this blender would be fun for children (with adult supervision, of course) because it’s colorful, lightweight, and easy to use.

Other bonuses? It’s relatively quiet when compared to other blenders. I would say you can make a smoothie and have a conversation with someone—or you might be able to make a smoothie in the kitchen without waking up everyone in your household. And, if counter space is an issue (or you really only need a blender for one), the BlendJet 2 is about the size of a venti Starbucks cup, so it doesn’t take up much real estate in your kitchen.

Despite the obvious pros, this isn’t a perfect blender or a unanimously positive BlendJet review. To get the blender to do its job, I had to tilt it a few times to get the blades to mix (but, admittedly, this isn’t any different from stopping a traditional blender, opening it up, and mixing ingredients so that they’ll hit the blades). Additionally, if you already have an all-purpose blender, I’m not sure that you need a portable one to carry around (you can do things the old fashioned way and pour your smoothie into a travel mug).

That said, I didn’t realize a blender could be delightful until the BlendJet 2 moseyed onto my Instagram feed. As mentioned above, this unit would be especially useful if you’re someone who wants to blend your smoothie on the road. Or if you need to seduce yourself into having more fruits and vegetables, then a cheerful little blender might be just what you need.
