Amy Schumer admits she was feeling ‘bad’ about the ‘privilege’ of having money to get liposuction

Amy Schumer says she’s happy with the results of her recent liposuction and it’s made her feel ‘a lot better’ about herself — but, she admits, she has felt a bit guilty about the ‘privilege’ of being able to have pricey cosmetic procedures that not everyone can afford.

Appearing on the ‘Making Space with Hoda Kotb‘ podcast, the 40-year-old comedian spoke candidly about getting the fat-removal procedure, explaining that she’d previously tried CoolSculpting but saw no results.

But while she is pleased with the results, she said she struggled with some guilt that she used a tool to lose weight that isn’t available to everyone, and had to convince herself that it was OK.

‘I was feeling bad because it’s, like, such a privilege thing,’ she said. ‘And I’m like, “Well, you know, people with money, they also drive nice cars” … So, my “nice car” is that I had, you know … a liter of fat sucked out of my belly.’

Amy first shared the results of her liposuction in January with photos of herself in a swimsuit, proclaiming that she was down to 170 lbs.

She has continued to speak candidly about it, telling Hoda this week that honesty is important to her.

‘I wanted to share it with people, just because I can’t lie about myself. I just can’t do it. I can’t be like, “Yeah, crunches. And I’ve just been eating smoked salmon,” you know? So I had to be real,’ she said.

‘I just wanted to be honest about it, rather than someone [saying], “Gosh, she looks like she lost some weight.”

‘And by the way, I look basically the same,’ she added. ‘I really could have never told anyone! And there wouldn’t have been one headline, like, “Schumer lost weight!”

'I just try to keep it in perspective. I try to think about what is attainable and what is unfair. And to me, it's like, it is kind of unfair,' she said

But Amy had noticed the weight gain herself and said she’d been ‘physically uncomfortable’ with the extra pounds at her midsection.

‘I think I was just in a weird moment after having a hysterectomy,’ she said.

‘And I was like, you know what? I have the time right now, I’m just gonna — and I tried other things. Like I tried CoolSculpting. I didn’t personally have any results from that. And I’ve tried everything else and you know, having a C-section and the kind of endometriosis I had.’

She figured, if she was ‘willing to give myself frostbite, or whatever CoolSculpt does, why don’t I just do this thing that works?’

‘And I did it. And it worked. And I feel a lot better about myself,’ she said. ‘I’m really happy with it. Dr. Jordan Turner, shoutout!’

But she has taken time to remind herself that she is lucky to be able to afford the procedure, and she doesn’t want to mislead other people into thinking she did it without help.

‘I just try to keep it in perspective. I try to think about what is attainable and what is unfair. And to me, it’s like, it is kind of unfair,’ she said. ‘The people that I’m closest to aren’t, you know, rolling in dough.’

Amy first revealed that she’d had liposurgery in January as she shared photos of herself in a black one-piece swimsuit.

‘I feel good. Finally,’ she wrote. ‘It’s been a journey thanks for helping me get my strength back @seckinmd (endo) @jordanternermd (lipo) never thought i would do anything but talk to me after your uterus doesn’t contract for 2.5 years and you turn 40. @paulvincent22 vickie Lee (acupuncture) my girl Nicole from the tox my friends and fam. The mother-of-one has long been vocal about her battle with endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

The condition can cause considerable pain for sufferers and have an impact on fertility.

Last year, she revealed she underwent a hysterectomy and appendectomy in order to treat the condition.

She spoke about her liposuction further on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast earlier this month.

‘I got liposuction,’ said the Emmy-winning star, who shares son Gene, 2, with her husband, Chris Fischer, 42. ‘I never thought that I was going to do anything like that.

‘Like when I would hear liposuction I was just like, that’s so crazy to me, and I would say that I’m not ever going to do anything.’

Also this month, she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where the host told her she looked fantastic.

Amy responded: ‘I know, right? You know what it is, I have been eating vegetables with every meal and lipo.’
