5 Beauty Tips We Learned From Wander Beauty Cofounder Lindsay Ellingson During Masterclass Monday

This week, we hosted our second Masterclass Monday, a virtual event powered by BeautyPass (if you’re not a BeautyPass member yet—it’s free—sign up here) with beautiful supermodel Lindsay Ellingson, cofounder of Wander Beauty. “I cofounded Wander Beauty with Divya Gugnani about seven years ago. We come from very different backgrounds, but we are both really busy moms and constantly multitasking on the go. And at the time, we felt like our beauty routines were way too complicated and no beauty brands were speaking to us and helping us save time. We actually surveyed hundreds of women and found that they agreed: They had less and less time to spend on their beauty routines and wanted more time doing the things they loved. So, we decided to innovate in the beauty space with time-saving, multitasking essentials that you reach for every day wherever you wander.”

Not only did we learn all about Lindsay and the brand, but we also walked away with some noteworthy beauty tips and tricks below that we couldn’t wait to share.

Multitask While You Mask

“I’m a mom of two, so I don’t get the sleep I used to get, and it immediately shows under my eyes. I’m obsessed with our Baggage Claim Eye Masks, which are a great way to start off your makeup look in the morning. We have three different shades—gold foil, rose gold and limited-edition silver—but they all have the same serum. I like to wear Baggage Claim to make my eyes look refreshed and awake, and you get this nice instant cooling effect because of the aloe leaf juice in the serum, which feels so good. A great trick is to store them in your refrigerator for an extra cooling, soothing effect too.

What I love is that there are three layers—it’s our innovative three-layer technology—and the innermost layer is a cellulose fiber that’s like a sponge that holds all of the hyaluronic acid serum in. The center is an elastic layer, which helps the mask to stay put. They don’t slide down your face, which is great because you can multitask while you mask. We know all of you are busier than ever. A lot of times I’ll put these on in the morning and wear them for 15 minutes while I make my coffee and cook breakfast for my son. My favorite part is the outer layer—the gold foil—which is so cool because it helps to gently warm your skin, and as your skin starts to warm up underneath, it absorbs the serum so much better. It kind of looks like a plumping, lifting effect when you take them off—it’s amazing. When you take them off, you can massage any leftover serum into your skin and even on your forehead and between your brows where you get those lines. We also have a lot of celebrity fans of Baggage Claim, which you may have seen on Instagram.”

Use Concealer as Foundation Too

“Our Dualist Matte and Illuminating Concealer is another one of my loves—I use it every single day. It is such an essential part of my beauty routine, and with one stick, I can perfect my entire complexion. On one side, you have a matte concealing stick, which is great if you have a blemish, really dark circles under your eyes or hyperpigmentation. On the other side is an illuminating liquid—it has really soft light-reflecting pigments—which is great to use in the center of your face and any areas you want to highlight. I wear shade Light, and it’s perfect for everyday wear or touch-ups on the go.

Here’s my trick with Dualist: I take the illuminating liquid and apply it to the back of my hand first, and then I use our Foundation Brush to buff it into my skin all over—it kind of works like a CC cream just to blur and perfect for a filtered effect. I don’t want a cakey makeup look—it’s really lightweight. I go right on top of the stick concealer.”

“Tip” Your Lashes

Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara is the first mascara we ever launched—we launched it in 2016—and though I have two boys, I feel like this is another one of my babies because we worked so hard on it. When we were developing this, we were told the mascara category was so competitive that we shouldn’t create one, and I was like, no way, we can do this, and we can do it even better.

The wand has this nice gentle curve and tapered tip that I love because you reach all the little baby lashes in the inner corners that really accentuate your eyes. But a really great tip that I learned backstage during Fashion Week is that after I apply a few coats of mascara and let it set for second—you don’t want it to be wet—I go back in and ’tip’ my lashes: You apply a bit more mascara only to the tips of your lashes to lengthen them.”

Apply Bronzer in a “3” Shape

“In our new product, our Getaway Face & Eye Palette, you get a highlighter, a blush, a bronzer and four eyeshadows. This is the only palette you need this summer, whether you’re poolside or at the beach at a bonfire, or maybe you’re at a sunset rooftop party. This is effortless looks in the palm of your hand.

Let’s start with bronzer. When you’re applying your bronzer, I want you to think of the shape of the number three. Start your brush at the center of your forehead—I’m using our Round Trip Blush and Bronzer Brush—and then go right underneath your cheekbone and then under your jawline. Start light and build up, continuing to blend for a nice, sun-kissed look. It also helps to pucker up so you can see the correct placement for your cheekbone. I like to go back and forth between the two sides of the brush and just continue to blend. You really can’t go wrong with this, just continue to blend. You don’t want to see any lines, that’s the key. I also love to add a bit of bronzer to the tip of my nose for a faux-freckle, sun-kissed look. I never tan my face—I wear our mineral SPF every single day—but I want it to look like I have a tan.”

Use a Texturizing Shampoo

“I’m not good at doing my hair, but I keep it short. One trick is that I wash it at night and sleep on it wet, which helps me to wake up with that natural, bedhead texture, and it also saves me time in the morning. I also use this shampoo from Pacifica called Salty Waves Texture Shampoo—I get it at Whole Foods—which is so cool because it gives me nice, beachy texture. I’m all about easy, effortless everything, and I don’t like to style my hair [laughs]. I just sleep on it and then scrunch it with some product.”
